What’s on my packing list for a show day?

As I mentioned in my previous blog I love a list, they make me feel so much more organised. I thought I would share with you what is on my lists for going to a show. Hopefully you may find it helpful and make it less likely to forget anything. Please note this is just for a day show, if going to a stay away show extras would need to be packed such as wheelbarrow, feeds, bedding etc etc.

I split my lists up into 3 categories Pony, Jockey/Leader and Family. I find this makes it easier to see what I have and if I have missed anything off.

Pony

  • Passport/any documents you may need to compete
  • Saddle
  • Girth
  • Numnah
  • Bridle
  • Reins (spare reins if you have them)
  • Boots (if needed)
  • Studs and stud kit (if needed)
  • Tack cleaning wipes
  • Headcollar and lead rope
  • Rainsheet
  • Haynet
  • Grooming kit
  • Plaiting kit (if needed)
  • Detangler spray
  • Fly spray
  • Rainsheet
  • Babywipes
  • Baby oil
  • Water container
  • Bucket/sponge
  • Towel
  • Tail bandage
  • Travelling boots/bandages
  • Small first aid kit for pony

Jockey/Leader

  • Jodhpurs (plus a spare pair)
  • Trousers for leader
  • Shirt (plus a spare)
  • Tie
  • Jacket
  • Waistcoat
  • Hairnet/Hair ribbons
  • Socks
  • Boots
  • Jodhpur clips
  • Riding hat
  • Flat cap/leaders hat
  • Gloves
  • Sweets!
  • Fancy dress stuff (if doing this class of course)
  • Body protector (if needed)
  • Rain macs
  • Whip/showing cane

Family

  • Changing bag (if you have a child still in nappies) or a rucksack, so handy to sling everything in needed to cart to the ringside
  • Change of clothes for all children going, you never what messes they are going to get into.
  • Wellies
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Coats – with hoods if you have them
  • Suncream
  • Sun hats
  • Drinks/drinks bottle – handy to have at the ringside for little people in between classes to limit moaning.
  • Picnic
  • Picnic rug
  • Folding chairs
  • Purse/cash
  • Show schedule
  • Plasters/painkillers
  • Pushchair (obviously only if you have a child needing one)
  • Tissues/toilet paper

So there you have it, my lists for a day at a show, ponies and children never travel lightly. It may seem like a lot of stuff for one day but I find it better to be over prepared than under prepared!
